Pergamon Acropolis

4 Days Short Turkey's UNESCO Sites Tour Pergamon - Ephesus - Aphrodisias - Pamukkale; Extremely worthwhile UNESCO world heritage site atop a massive hill. The vantage point is incredible. It's high, panoramic views, its establishment, and the whole city complex in itself; you will love this place because it's overlooking the entire town. Pergamon's archaeological sights, towering 330 m above the city, are extensive and impressive.

Its ruins, loping over more than 3000 acres, are located on two main sites. The Acropolis, which looms above the town, and with one world's wealthiest libraries, the ruins make it one of Turkey's finest archaeological sites.

The theater on the side of the hill is simply amazing. The most notable attraction is the mammoth amphitheater, capable of seating 10.000 spectators. It is the steepest theater whole Mediterranean coastline. Most of the Altar of Zeus, consisting of the remains of a marble offering table, graces the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.

The Temple was the "throne of Satan" referred to by St.John in the Book of Revelations. In ancient times, only the library in Alexandria surpassed Pergamon’s, which contained more than 200.000 volumes. When the Alexandrians attempted to eclipse the Pergamon book bonanza by limiting the flow of papyrus from the Nile, Pergamon schoolers invented parchment from goat hide.

The plot thickened: when the library’s Egyptian rival went up in flames. Marc Antony plundered Pergamon’s shelves and presented the pilfered collection to Cleopatra.

Asclepion (Medical Center)

Under the direction of Galen, the most famous physician of the Roman Empire, Pergamon became the center of the cult of Asclepius, the Greek demi-god of healing and eponym of the Asclepion, which was both a temple and place of healing.

Allegedly, no patient left here unhealed, though undoubtedly, many were rushed out the back door in the throes of death. An impressive portion of the Asclepion remains, including a marble colonnade street, a theater, a library, a natural spring, and healing rooms.

Kizil Avlu (Red Baslica)

Red Basilica, which was originally built as a second-century temple to the Egyptian God Serapis and converted into a basilica during to Byzantine Empire.

Pergamon Acropolis, The temple of Zeus, the Temple of Emperor Trojan, the Theatre, the Pergamum Library, Arsenals, Red Basilica, and the Ascleion medical center; after visiting all of them, we will drive for lunch. After lunch, drive from Pergamon to Kusadasi, It is 197 km/122 miles one way and will take around 1.10 hours.

4 Days Short Turkey's UNESCO Sites Tour Pergamon - Ephesus - Aphrodisias - Pamukkale; You will be/can be met at Hotel in Kusadasi. Then we will drive to Ephesus;

The House of the Virgin Mary

We will pass through the verdant and picturesque countryside before arriving at our first stop which is The House of the Virgin Mary; in accordance with the Predominant Christian tradition, Mary was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle St. John after the resurrection of Christ and lived out her final resting years here. This is based mainly on the traditional belief that John came to Ephesus combined with the biblical statement that Jesus consigned her to John's care (John 19:26-27).

Ephesus Ancient Ruin

After The House of the Virgin Mary, we will head on to the next destination, the Ancient City of Ephesus; the tour here shall be a walking tour and will take you through one of the most magnificent archaeological sites in the entire world. You will be able to see the Odeon, The Fountain of Trajan, the steam baths of Scholastic, the Temple of Hadrian, and of course lets’ not forget the very impressive library of Ephesus, The library is adorned with columns and statues.

The Grand Theatre, where Saint Paul preached, is the largest in antiquity with a capacity of 24.000 seats. You will then return to the bus through the Arcadian Way, where Mark Anthony and Cleopatra once rode in procession. After your 2-hour exploration around Ephesus, we will head for a lunch break for about 1 hour. Then we will continue to the next stop, The Temple of Artemis (Diana).

The Temple of Artemis (Diana)

This outstanding temple was built in honor of the Greek Goddess of hunting, wild nature, and fertility deemed as one of the Seven wonders of the ancient world. The temple of Artemis used to be the largest marble temple in the ancient Greek world since it was four times as big as the Parthenon in Athens, Greece. The temple served as both a marketplace and a religious institution.

Offerings by thousands of pilgrims each year enable the temple to grow so wealthy that it became the world`s first bank. Today, little remains of the magnificent structure. Your guide will describe its importance, its wealth, and the tension that existed between the Romans and Christians that settled in the area over the centuries.

The Ephesus tour will finish at around 17:00. Then we will set out for Kusadasi. Overnight and dinner in Kusadasi.

4 Days Short Turkey's UNESCO Sites Tour Pergamon - Ephesus - Aphrodisias - Pamukkale; After the late breakfast, depart to Aphrodisias, 179 km/111 mil. It will take approximately 2. hours. But there will be breaks along the way to stretch your legs and have a snack.

Aphrodisias Anceint City

Aphrodisias was a small Greek Hellenistic city in the historical Caria cultural region of Western Anatolia in Turkey. It is named after the Greek love Aphrodite (Goodes of Love), the cult image of Aphrodisias. Aphrodisias; the metropolis of the region, is also a Carian community. White and blue-gray Carian marble was mined for purposes and sculptures to building facades.

Roman marble statues and sculptors became famous. Many examples of statues were excavated in Aphrodite, and Afro displays were used in other events in Rome. The Agora was a large public and market area located between the Temple of Aphrodite and the Aphrodisias Acropolis. It is a building mostly built for musical events. In short, this place served the purpose of holding conversations and literary competitions among the people.

Sebasteion is an ostentatious building complex built by two families from Aphrodisias for the worship of the early Roman Emperors between 20-60 AD. This complex consists of a temple and a 90-meter-long ceremonial path with a three-story column structure on each side. There were life-size figures on the 2nd and 3rd floors of these structures that framed the road.

Theatre, It was built on the eastern slope of the Acropolis in the second half of the 1st century. The theater, which has a seating capacity of 8,000, had 6 dressing rooms, 4 of which opened to the front stage, in the stage building.

Hadrian's Bath, Bath structures stand out as vaulted architectural and water technology marvels in the Roman city of the imperial period. The Odeon, The capacity of the hall was about 1700 people. In addition, until the beginning of the 5th century, it was used as a sports area where senate meetings were held. At the top of the stage, buildings are records of achievements. Stadium, Stadium is probably the best preserved and largest of its kind in the Mediterranean.

It has 22 rows of seats, 262 m long and 59 m wide. It has a capacity of 30,000 spectators. The Temple of Aphrodite, Temple Aphrodite Although it started to be built in the 1st century, it is thought that there are ancient times in the ruins found. According to the remains found, the Augustan period is thought to have been completed. The temple building was modified when it became a Christian basilica.

The building is believed to have been demolished.  Tetrapylon, This monumental gate, which provides entrance to the sanctuary of the Temple of Aphrodite, was built in 200 AD. Thanks to this gate, the main street of the city in the north and south directions were connected to the large courtyard in front of the temple. Then visit the amazing Aphrodisias Archaeological Museum. Then we drive for local lunch. "Eat our help out". Late lunch then drives to Pamukkale for Overnight and dinner.

"Pamukkale translates to 'Cotton Castle'... Once you get here, it's easy to see why. This natural phenomenon, designated a UNESCO Heritage site in 1988, with spectacular white calcium cliffs and beautiful turquoise blue pools, is truly a sight to behold. Pamukkale is like an alien landscape”

Snow White Calcium Travertines, Terraces, and Calcium Pools

Pamukkale or ‘Cotton Castle’ when translated has been drawing tourists from all around the world to its thermal springs for more than 23 centuries. Pamukkale and Pamukkale Tours is one of the top Famous Turkey Trips. The Turkish name refers to the extraordinary surface of the snow-white cliffs, shaped over millennia by the accumulation of calcium deposited by mineral springs.

Legend has it that the Cotton Castle formations are solidified cotton (the area’s principal crop) that was left out to dry by giants. Dripping slowly down a vast mountainside, mineral-rich water foams and collects in bowls that terrace the decline down the mountainside spilling over petrified cascades of stalactites into milky pools below.

These saucer-shaped travertines (or terraces, as they’re also called) wind sideways down the powder-white mountain, providing a stunning contrast to the clear blue sky and green plain below. To protect the unique calcite surface, you are obliged to traverse the area barefoot. Although the terrace pools aren't particularly deep, you can get fully submerged if you want, don’t forget your towel!

Don’t worry, if you don't have a bathing suit or towel, you can buy a Turkish Towel, Do not Forget is Cotton’s principal crop. As a nice suvinour, you can take it away to your home. You shouldn’t leave Pamukkale Tour without having a healing dip in the sacred fountain of Cleopatra’s pool.

Cleopatra’s Pool:

A swim in the effervescent waters of Cleopatra’s Pool should be at the top of any Turkey Travel Itinerary. Strewn about the bottom of the crystal-clear pool is an amazing collection of striated columns and capitals, a striking reminder of the pool's pedigree.

Cleopatra's Pool has warm clear fizzy water that bubbles from the source of the spring, but these days has now been blocked off to prevent divers from disappearing into its hidden depths.

With temperatures of 35C, you can bathe in the natural thermal mud and waters and enjoy the curative effects (both medicinal and beauty) of the water, which had previously benefited the ancient Greek and Roman peoples for centuries. This curative water with its Thermo mineral and magnesium, calcium, carbon dioxide, sulfide, and bicarbonate is suitable in many areas as a curative treatment.

Ancient City of Hierapolis:

The nearby ancient Hierapolis and its accompanying museums may be overshadowed by the springs but are also fascinating and well worth the visit. After taking a walk along the terraces we will take a short walk to Hierapolis City, which is also known as ‘Holy City.’

Just outside the main entrance is the Necropolis (Graveyard), containing more than 1200 tombs and sarcophagi of people who wished to have been buried here. It was believed that the proximity of the hot springs and vapor-emitting cracks would ease their journey into the Underworld.

Among the tombs lies the Martyrium which is an octagonal 5th-century edifice believed to have been erected upon the site where St. Philip was martyred in 80 CE.  The Hierapolis City Bath; the springs of Hierapolis were particularly popular among vacationing Romans. You will notice that carved into the side of the mountain is the monstrous Grand Theater that dominates the vista of Hierapolis At its height, the Grand Theatre could host 25.000 boisterous fans and is still largely intact until this day.

It features a vast network of decorative elements from the 3rd century CE including a selection of ornately sculptured statues, columns, and arches amongst other decretive elements. During Pamukkale Day Tour, you will have 2 hours of free break time to rest, take in the views, and of course, take some refreshments from the onsite cafeteria.

You can use the provided Pamukkale Map and Hierapolis Map to visit other nearby sites in your allotted free time.
