Sumela is a monastic complex that consists of the Rock Church, several chapels, kitchens, student rooms, a guesthouse, a library, and a spring revered by Eastern Orthodox Christians. It has an amazing and impressive location, as it is situated/ carved into the edge of the mountain, at an altitude of about 3,900 ft. Its construction is said to have started in 389 AD, during the reign of Emperor Theodosius.

Out of the whole complex, perhaps the most attractive but surely the most photogenic are the Rock Church. It is a masterpiece with its magnificent view and centuries-old construction. There are more than 100 frescoes. The frescoes describe hundreds of events in the Torah and the Bible. The river sounds and mountain views collected from the monastery are magnificent.
